Locate your representative!!… call or email now!
What is happening now: A few bills are currently being drafted that will impact the future access and use to Utah state waters.
What can YOU do: Voice your concerns to representatives that WE THE PEOPLE have elected. They are in their respective elected positions to lobby for our interests. Utilize the fantastic resource that our legislators represent. We need to rally together to make sure that our opinions and concerns are appropriately addressed. We need to let them know that this bill is unacceptable. Let your representative know that they speak for the public in general, not just the wealthy minority. We have been prevented our rights to these many waters for years, only to learn that the right was always ours to have. And now, we are faced with the real possibility of losing these old, but newly recognized freedoms.
EVERYONE needs to get involved. The more letters and communication received by our legislators, the better. Every voice counts. All you need to do is identify where you live, who your area representative is, and initiate contact with them. It’s easy!!! It takes less than 5 minutes, and your voice can and will be heard.
Some Helpful Hints:
(1) AVOID FORM LETTERS/EMAILS – Don’t just copy and paste. A legislator is much more likely to consider a letter containing each individual’s actual thoughts, opinions, and ideas. By using your own words, you express your true interest in the outcome of this issue.
(2) BE DIRECT – Let your representative know what you want. Make sure you are clear and concise, and that your letter provides a description of the problem, how you feel about the issue, and what you suggest as a solution.
(4) BE CIVIL AND RESPECTFUL – While we all recognize that this is a “hot button” topic, it is important to remember that we are trying to acquire allies; not enemies. There are a variety of ways to convey your concerns about an issue without resorting to demeaning, crude, or offensive tones.
(5) BE PERSISTENT – Make sure that your representative realizes that this is an important issue. Let them know where you stand, and that you will continue to fight for your rights as an angling public to use Utah’s rivers and streams. It is your right to use these waters. Utah’s representatives need to know that the people who have appointed them to their respective offices will hold them accountable for the decisions they make.

The easiest way to attack us is to make this an “elitist anglers vs landowners” dispute. We need Gurus, greenhorns, sportsman, kayakers , fish heads, waterfowl folk, all hunters, airboaters, photographers, streamside ramblers, pleasurably creek side observers, riverside dog walkers, everyone and anyone who uses water for recreation in the State of Utah to voice your concerns. Only together as ALL citizens and users of public water and streams can we hope to make a difference.
